Los Angeles-based classic rock mainstays LITTLE FEAT will be returning to Little Rock with their first ever appearance at the Revolution Music Room.  Widely regarded as one of the authentic originators of what would become the “jam band” scene, the band’s fusion of R&B, Rock, Boogie-Woogie, Roots, and Greasy Funk Shuffles would be adored and duplicated throughout their 40+ years of making music.  Fan bases as varied as that of Jimmy Buffett and Phish have both embraced the sound and the idea that Little Feat puts forth.  In Oct of 2011, PHISH covered the seminal Little Feat disc “Waiting For Columbus” in it’s entirety for their annual Halloween show.

Though the band began while the (sadly deceased) Lowell George was still a member of Frank Zappa’s MOTHER’S OF INVENTION, a reformation and new life began with a reunited lineup in 1988 that is still going strong (however, in 2010, founding drummer Richie Hayward passed away).  Little Feat is Bill Payne, Paul Barrere, Kenny Gradney, Fred Tackett, Gabe Ford, & Sam Clayton (2/3rds of which have been with the band since at least 1972).

Hits include the all-time great “Dixie Chicken”, “Willin”, “Rocket in My Pocket”, “Hate to Lose Your Lovin’”, “Let It Roll”, and (my personal fave ) “Oh, Atlanta”.  True story – I’ve never been to Atlanta, but when I do I’m going to sing that song the whole time.

Central Arkansas artist TREY HAWKINS BAND has found themselves smack dab in the middle of the final round for the annual LIVE AT BILLY BOBS contest.  This is a BIG deal for a number of reasons…1) Live at Billy Bobs is a cd series that has helped jumpstart the careers of a number of Texas country artists (Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Stoney Larue, etc).  It’s become a real badge of honor for those chosen by the legendary Texas nightclub to be on one of their discs.  Kind of a “Daytripper” for Outlaw/Red Dirt/Alt-Country artists…2) Not only does the winner get a CD & DVD release, but they also get a confirmed slot at Willie Nelson’s annual 4th of July BBQ.  If I was a musician, this would probably be something that I would love to do so why not live vicariously through our friends in Trey Hawkins Band and help them get there!…3)Trey Hawkins Band is from Arkansas.  The label is based in Texas.  Do you need more motivation to get out and VOTE for THB!!

Coming in hot on the heels of a top 5 debut on the Billboard Country Chart (April 2012) with his third record “Small Town Family Dream”, JOSH ABBOTT BAND is returning to Little Rock’s Rev Room for one night on Thursday May 17.  This will be the band’s 2nd trip into the venue after being very well-received there in 2011.  Fans of Cross Canadian Ragweed, Casey Donahew Band, and Randy Rogers Band who don’t already know about Josh Abbott should be prepared to add a new artist to their list of Red Dirt Country favorites.

Nashville-based musician ELIZABETH COOK will be making her Stickyz Chicken Shack debut on Wednesday night. Elizabeth is a regular at the Grand Ole Opry (over 300 gigs played in that legendary venue), and her 2010 release “Welder” was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 30 Albums of 2010. Opening the show will be Tim Carroll who, aside from being a premium-grade-A songwriter himself, is also the headliner’s husband.
