The Original Wailers - Review

I can't overstate how awesome these guys sounded and how "into it" the crowd was from the first note. A crowd some 400 strong packed out The Rev on a Tuesday night and I only saw one person sitting still (seriously, dude, I watched you not move a muscle for 20 minutes...not even for "Jammin" or "Exodus"!).

The highlight of the show was the one-two combo of "3 Little Birds" into "No Woman, No Cry". Just typing about it now still gives me chillybumps. No matter how many times you've heard these songs performed...The Original Wailers just blew it all away. The room sounded fantastic, the crowd was MUCH bigger than anticipated, and if you were there then you know about the Love that was happening.

"And this is my message to you-ou-ou"

Tips for Opening Bands #1

Don't play past the time you have been told your set is supposed to end. There are some cases in which you will be allowed to go on earlier if you want to play an extra 15 minutes or so, BUT if you've been told your set ends at 10pm, don't push it. You are the opening act, and only your mom is hoping you get to play longer. Everyone else is waiting patiently for the headliner.

Not a Killers Fan

I'm just not a Killers fan. I liked the first album, but they kind of lost my attention with Sam's Town - - is it really named after the Casino?

I only wanted to mention it b/c I had no desire to watch their show from Coachella on Saturday or their appearance on Leno last night (I played Peggle instead!).

Tonight I'll probably be wathing The Original Wailers at The Rev Room instead of paying attention to American Idol, but as soon as I get word of the song lineup I'll post it here.

Music To the Left of Me -

I had an odd moment last night that I wanted to share. Or, maybe it's not odd for me at all - In fact, the more I thought about it, it was perfectly normal for me.

I was sitting in the Rumba office, and Jeff coleman & the Feeders had just gone on in the Rev Room next door, but with the Rev door open (the one that goes into Rumba) the sound of Jeff's band was very loud on my right side (not a bad thing).
On my left side, the door to my office was slightly opened and I could easily here the band Six Strings Down playing on the Rumba patio. If you are familiar with either band, I had "Pterydactyl" in my right ear, and "Come Pick Me Up" in my left ear.
Of course, I was sitting at my desk - drumming, singing, and sweating along to The Hold Steady live from Coachella as I watched it stream onto the laptop.

Rob the manager came in and got a good laugh. I told him I expect I will die in a situation much like this one.

COACHELLA - is where I isn't

Having never been to Coachella, I don't know exactly what I'm missing. But I do know that for the 3rd year in a row they are airing it live on AT&T's The Blue Room - www.attblueroom.com. If you have an svideo cable, a big screen, and a laptop - you are soooo in business.

Highlights tonight will be full airings of THE HOLD STEADY at 925pm and McCARTNEY at midnight (with Morissey in between so that you can take a nice long bathroom break or whatever). The Killers & Drive by Truckers sets get broadcast on Saturday, and Sunday night it winds down with Public Enemy at 11pm and THE CURE at 1210am. Yes, you can sit at your house Sunday at midnight and watch The Freakin' Cure LIVE.

No bathroom lines. No $5 bottles of water. Unfortunately no sunkist Californians, but it's a small price to pay for enjoying a front row seat to the West Coast's 2nd best festival* from your couch.
