Yeah, They Actually DO Rock

Yeah, They Actually DO Rock

I got word today that Pavement, the Godfathers of Indie Rock, will be playing select dates in 2010.  Do you know how exciting this is??  Have you ever seen them live??  I had a chance to catch them
(a) on the Crooked Rain Crooked Rain tour at Club Ikon (ever heard of that one?) in Tulsa, OK in 1994. (*****stars, excellent show, I literally sat on the stage between Steve Malkmus’ monitors and I had a short conversation with Spiral Stairs in the parking lot b/c he was peeing in between the car I was in and another car.
(b) at Lollapalooza in 1995 after they released Wowee Zowee (***stars, Starplex Amp in Dallas, OK Show but Lolla sets are sooo short (40 minutes), but I mostly remember sneaking into line at the backstage VIP buffet with Melissa Auf Der Maur before their set)
(c) at Metro in Chicago in 1999 on the Terror Twilight tour (***** stars, excellent show – they played all of the fan favorites “Summer Babe”!!, I bought a shirt for a fat friend that I never gave him – now the shirt fits me.  WTF?)
I won’t be missing these guys next year.  Now I’ve just got to figure out how to get that spot onstage again.  Surely they don’t have that many fans that have been waiting impatiently for 10 years…
